Review of 'Gradual'

Another of his work, “Gradual”, shows his intention to slow down and capture the viewers’ attention. This particular piece of work is on display in the “Krungthep 226 Exhibition” at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre. “Gradual” is displayed on the 56 m. mezzanine between the 7th and the 8th floor.

Jedsada finds that people these days are always in a hurry to get to their destination and often forget to look around them whether they are traveling to work or even walking in an art gallery. Materials used in this artwork are what are common in construction sites in Bangkok.

He uses plastic net, mosquito nets and other construction materials to encompass the viewers within the mezzanine and blind them to their surroundings. Sculptural posts are put through out the space so that passersby have to circle around them or their visual sight are limited, thus, make it inevitable for them to slow down. These posts also serve to pull the readers attention towards the present.

Jedsada cleverly plays tricks with colors and lighting. Sometimes things that are far away may not seem the same as when inspecting it close-up. The artist also hides yellow mosquito nets under black plastic net so as to invite the readers to slow down and inspect the work more carefully on the sloping mezzanine and indulge in their feelings.
