Concept of 'Passage'

If a writer has to begin a story with three sentences from other stories, a chef is required to prepare a meal with leftovers in a saucepan, a painter is assigned to work with a sheet with partial patterns, and how they will cope with the additional matters or remaining parts.

The exhibition space in Tadu Contemporary Art isn't a 'white cube' but a room with the complicated construction of the gallery’s ventilation system; pipes, vents, lamps and cables on its ceiling. If an artist requires to works with all features inside that room, what kind of ideas he/she will come up with.

In general, rooms in a building are purpose-built or designed to be functional. An architect considers the function before making the layout of the building. In case of an art gallery or museum, the walls of the exhibition room are probably the most function of all structure. While the work of art is mostly displayed on the wall, the floor is being used only as a pathway for viewing the exhibition.

Passage, a site specific installation exhibition at Tadu Contemporary Art, the walking path becomes a concept of the piece. A complicated irregular network of passages is created within the space as a labyrinth.

The size and the route of passages are constructed by following the size and direction of air-condition tubes on the ceiling. Viewers are invited to walk through all passageways. As the pathways are different sizes in width, a viewer has to tilt his/her body sideways while preceding the narrow passages. Walking through the unfamiliar and varying size of passages in the exhibition, the viewer requires to move cautiously and be conscious of his/her steps as a walking meditation performs.
