As life in Bangkok spins as fast as other metropolis, people tend to be busy with their business, careers, education, economies and daily lifestyle. According to Gradual is a part of the imagined future Bangkok zone in the exhibition, I try to create a site-specific installation which slows down the speed of life in Bangkok. A walking route on the ramp between 7th and 8th floor is designed to make viewer reach the end of the ramp as slow as possible.
The forty-three large columns are installed on the fifty-two meters ramp forming a zigzag walking route. Each column rising to 500 centimeters in height and is about 60 centimeters in diameter. Three layers of different materials; black shading net, yellow translucent net and black plastic net are used to form a column. Columns are created with the purpose of blocking part of walking route rather than being aesthetic sculpture.
The mosquito net keep viewer from the distraction of strong sunlight, other parts of building and seclude them for a meditative stroll. The white colour and translucent quality of the mosquito net reduce the intensity of shading net, and make the piece in harmony with other works in the show. The enclosed net also prevents columns from falling into people on the ground floor.
