Concept of 'Exhale - Inhale'

I carried a small work (made from paper and wood) for the group exhibition “MFA International” from London to Crete, Greece for participating a residency program. On the day that I left Crete to Isarael, Hezbollah fighters fired a Raad rocket into Israeli border. The officers at immigration border, Ben Gurion International Airport investigated me and examined my artwork very seriously. The work went through x-ray examination twice, completed work and a half divided. Consequently, they let me carry the artwork into the city centre.

When I arrived at the exhibition space, Ben Gurion Airport Terminal 1, there is only a small-scale wall next to a ventilation available to make use of. The other walls have been already reserved by fellow artists from the Slade as they arrived to the exhibition space the day before. I decided to work with the ventilation and left the work that I carried with me behind.

The fixed-blade of utility vent is painted with blue and green enamel paint. The title of the works refers to the vent’s function, allow air movement. The vent is painted to be look like a minimalist painting, but some local viewers see it as the symbol of Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the issue of boundary as the paints on the vent cover resemble the color of the two countries flags (blue and white - green and white). The work is mostly missed by viewers. However, when the piece is discovered, the mixing between delight and surprise could be viewed on the viewer’s facial expression.
